Take Me Higher
Quotes by Hazrat Inayat Khan
"Love is unlimited, but it needs scope to expand and rise; without that scope, life is unhappy."
"Every wave of the sea, as it rises, seems to be stretching its hands upwards, as if to say,
"Take me up higher and higher."
"True pleasure lies in the sharing of joy with another."
"As water in a fountain flows as one stream, but falls in many drops divided by time and space,
so are the revelations of the one stream of truth."
"All names and forms are the garbs and covers under which the one life is hidden."

Don't listen if anyone tells you that there isn't a soul or a God. Buddha believed in God,
he just used cryptic language to express a specific spiritual approach. The entire purpose of our
existence to to approach that Infinite Consciousness.
The Dhammapada talks about reincarnation. The Buddha said that he lived past lives. And the Buddha
discussed the gods. However you define "the thing" that reincarnates...by definition...that is a soul.
The existence of gods...or beings without bodies...again, by definition....defines existence as
a soul.

Humor in Autobiography of a Yogi
Thu, April 23, 2009 - 3:56 AMIn addition to all the beautiful, gentle examples of Yogananda's great love for everyone, I remember a bit of humor, from Chapter 7, about the Levitating Saint:
www.ananda.org/inspiratio...s/ay/7.html
"He offered me some mangoes. With that good-humored wit that I found so delightful in his grave nature, he remarked, 'People in general are more fond of Jala Yoga (union with food) than of Dhyana Yoga (union with God).'
His yogic pun affected me uproariously.
'What a laugh you have!' An affectionate gleam came into his gaze. His own face was always serious, yet touched with an ecstatic smile. His large, lotus eyes held a hidden divine laughter."
I guess, as the saying goes, "a sad saint is a sad saint indeed."
I also recall reading an incident about Swami Vivekananda, who was caught reading the English humor journal "Punch." He was laughing so hard that he had tears streaming down his face!

"He who depends upon his eyes for sight, his ears for hearing and his mouth for speech, he is still dead."
"The afterlife is like a gramophone; man's mind brings the records; if they are harsh, the instrument produces harsh notes, if beautiful then it will sing beautiful songs. It will produce the same records that man has experienced in this life."

"Tolerance does not come by learning, but by insight; by understanding that each one should be allowed to travel along the path which is suited to his temperament."

Truth is not theory
Sun, July 12, 2009 - 6:23 AMQuotes from -- Paramahansa Yogananda and Mahatma Gandhi
"Truth is not theory, no speculative system of philosophy, no intellectual insight. Truth is exact correspondence with reality. For man, truth is the unshakeable knowledge of his real nature, his Self."
-- Paramahansa Yogananda
"Religions are different roads converging on the same point. What does it matter that we take different roads so long as we reach the same goal? I believe that all religions of the world are true more or less. I say 'more or less' because I believe that everything the human hand touches, by reason of the very fact that human beings are imperfect, becomes imperfect."

"The world is evolving from imperfection towards perfection; it needs all love and sympathy; great tenderness and watchfulness is required from each one of us."
"Forbearance, patience and tolerance are the only conditions which keep two individual hearts united."

"We can learn virtue even from the greatest sinner if we consider him as a teacher."
"There is a light within every soul; it only needs the clouds that overshadow it to be broken for it to beam forth."
"The soul's true happiness lies in experiencing the inner joy, and it will never be fully satisfied with outer, seeming pleasures. Its connection is with God, and nothing short of perfection will ever satisfy it."
"The perfect life is following one's own ideal, not in checking those of others; leave everyone to follow his own ideal."
