Qi-Gong Self Massage
Sun, April 5, 2009 - 1:03 AMHi,
I hope that everyone is doing well.
I ran into a horrible, horrible headache. Luckily, I remembered some cranial massage techniques and was
able to give myself some significant relief.
I looked online to find a version of the techniques that I used, but couldn't find them. They come from
the book "Basic Massage" by Michio Kushi and include a bunch of points from shiatsu/ acupressure.
While I wasn't able to find those, I did find this wonderful site, with a detailed explanation of another
massage technique.

Meditation for Better Sleep

Meditation for Better Sleep - Associated Professional Sleep Societies
www.drweil.com/drw/u/WBL0...sity.html#2
Relaxation or sedation may seem like the obvious short term solutions to sleeping problems, but learning to meditate may help overcome insomnia and lead to lasting improvements in all aspects of sleep, according to study findings presented in June at the
annual meeting of the Associated Professional Sleep Societies.
All of the 11 participants in a meditation study suffered from insomnia but were otherwise healthy. The principal investigator noted that insomnia is not just a night-time problem - effects such as hyperarousal and elevated measures of arousal are seen all day. For the study, the participants were divided into two groups. Both were taught about sleep hygiene. Then one group learned Kriya yoga, a form of meditation that has been shown to reduce measures of arousal. The other group received health education. After two months, the researchers assessed sleep quality, total sleep time, sleep efficiency, depression and other measures of sleep quality. All of these factors improved among the group that learned to meditate.

TCM and Keeping Warm
Wed, November 18, 2009 - 12:12 PMHi Everyone!
Hope everyone is doing ok.
My acupuncturist keeps reminding me how important it is to just, simply, keep warm.
She says (and I believe it) that, in Traditional Chinese Medicine, it is very important to keep the body from being exposed to "wind." That when the body is not covered, it really diminishes the chi - or vitality/immune system.
That a very simple thing to do to protect and enhance our immune system is simply to keep covered and warm.
And so, little things like wearing socks (and even a cap) while sleeping can help.
And doing so throughout the day as well.
Also, when trying to recover from a bad cold or injury, when we simply get some extra rest during the day, if we do so while well covered by blankets, wearing a cap, etc. etc. etc. it can go a long way to supporting/ aiding the immune system.
Since this is a basic rule that I frequently forget to follow...and with winter coming on, I thought it was a good time for a reminder.
take care everyone,
Jon -
